Paint everything including the garage door the same color. Then for a pop of color paint the front door red orange, chartreuse or pumpkin orange. A new landscape design would also enhance the property.
A mix of evergreens, grasses and perennials in russet reds, orange and golds would be a beautiful compliment. Look for a local landscape architect or designer to help you develop a plan with plantings that will thrive in your local. Like 1 Save. Related Discussions Advice - 80's contemporary exterior makeover Q. Hi All, thank you so much for the fabulous ideas. We ended up doing three things: 1 Painted the whole house and trim. Absolutely thrilled with it! There's no more yellow tinge, which looked very dated.
Kind of a craftsman pattern, but purposely decided NOT to put on decorative hardware to keep with the contemporary feel of the rest of the house. This was an incredibly tedious project -- cuts have to be super accurate and there are plenty to make, including several precise angles. Also spent lots of time plotting out the dimensions and design so everything would look proportional like an nice coachman style door. We needed them anyway, the old ones were on their last legs.
If you have questions on how we did this, email me at amyfinch5 at gmail 3 Did a bunch of landscaping work. My husband tapped into our sprinkler system and added some tubing that connects to our annual pots so they get a steady stream of water every day. Makes a big difference. Cost was really cheap - a few bucks I believe. Looks fabulous! I really liked the idea that BLDG Workshop suggested of a Japanese Maple behind our column, but after visiting a few nurseries, determined that it wouldn't work in that area.
How to update exterior of 80's contemporary home Q. Diagonal siding and a hip roof. Makes me wonder what were they smoking in the 80's?! These photos are for the paint colour reference and the brown roofs, not the style. This photo is Copley Gray and Elephant Tusk for the trim with this warm brown roof. Wondering if you did the middle section only in the Copley Gray and both ends in two shades lighter of the Copley Gray. Your window trim would look nice with the Elephant Tusk or a cleaner white like the 2nd photo.
Contrasting the window trim from the body paint would really help. I agree with Rina, I would wrap your posts with another layer to beef them up and make your entry more prominent. Keep them square. Post another photo when the sun is out.
I do agree taller shrubs would be a good thing in the 3 wider wall sections. Nothing better than a treed backdrop, you've got that. Need suggestions updating the exterior of this 80's contemporary house Q.
The yard was landscaped in the 90's by probably the longest ran, most reputable local landscape company. I'm not sure if the shrubs were part of their design or if they were planted since. The front yard doesn't have any grass and has lots of dynamic to it, with quite a bit of wood chips that need to be replaced.
I wish I had a picture of it, but it's all snow covered and we havnt taken possession of the house yet. I think painting interlocking brick is possible, but sinc the driveway has a path leading to a large matching brick patio in the back it would be a big project and I'd be worried about the paint lasting.
I am going to leave the siding mostly as is. I don't want to lose the texture by painting. I did have someone out to discuss brightening it, but that can be hard on the wood. I want to see if I can work with it first.
Right now, my plan is to re-case the front porch column and cross trusses in new cedar in a tone that matches the backing I made to the house numbers , do the porch soffit in new cedar, remove the side lamp porch light and do 3 spots in the cathedral style porch soffit. I do like the wide entrance. It is lovely. I'd have to transplant some mature plantings to make it happen Matilda Bos Design Studio 8 years ago.

The decision also stated " No examination will be scheduled in the future. You may be entitled to Armed Forces Commissary and Exchange privileges I get champva? This will be huge for us. Their devotion and loyalty to man have set them apart. One of the most enduring eulogies to this affect was presented by a Sedalia, Mo. His speech was in response to a lawsuit on behalf of "Old Drum", a foxhound who was viciously killed by a human neighbor. His owner brought suit for damages. Senator Vest concluded his case with the following speech: "Gentlemen of the jury, the best friend a man has in the world may turn against him and become his worst enemy.
His son or daughter that he has reared with loving care may prove ungrateful. Those who are nearest and dearest to us, those whom we trust with our happiness and our good name, may become traitors to their faith. The money that a man has, he may lose. It flies away from him, perhaps when he needs it the most. A man's reputation may be sacrificed in a moment of ill-considered action.
The people who are prone to fall on their knees to do us honor when success is with us may be the first to throw the stone of malice when failure settles its cloud upon our heads. The one absolutely unselfish friend that a man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him and the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his dog. Gentleman of the jury, a man's dog stands by him in prosperity and in poverty, in health and in sickness.
He will sleep on the cold ground, where the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only he may be near his master's side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer, he will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounters with the roughness of the world.
He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince. When all other friends desert the master, he remains. When riches take wings and reputation falls to pieces, he is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey through the heavens. If fortune drives the master forth an outcast in the world, friendless and homeless, the faithful dog asks no higher privilege than that of accompanying him to guard against danger, to fight against his enemies, and when the last scene of all come, and death takes the master in its embrace and his body is laid away in the cold ground, no matter if all other friends pursue their way, there by his grave side will the noble dog be found, his head between his paws, his eyes sad but open in alert watchfulness, faithful and true even to death.

UPS pilots, represented by the International Pilots Association, were slated to strike as they had pledged to walk out with the Teamsters. This includes no flying, training orcompany-directed deadheading after the initiation of a strike," said a telephone recording at IPA headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky. In Atlanta, UPS spokesman Norman Black said that if the 2, IPA pilots did not show up for work, the company would try to maintain some level of air traffic by calling in management-level pilots.
Along with increases in pay and pensions, the Teamsters have demanded limits on subcontracting, better safety and health provisions and more full-time jobs. Some two-thirds of the drivers, sorters and other UPS workers represented by the union work part-time. Wells said the two sides remained apart on a number of issues, but declined to elaborate.
On Saturday the Teamsters made what they described as slight changes in their latest offer based on 15 hours of bargaining last week overseen by federal mediators. The union wants the company to provide thousands of new full-time jobs. The company has offered to create 1, new full-time jobs from part-time positions over the life of a proposed five-year contract.
The Teamsters contract expired at midnight Thursday, but talks continued until dawn Friday and then resumed that afternoon for six hours.
