Setup dlink dir-655 as wireless access point

Download Free PDF. Tom Villeneuve. Download PDF. A short summary of this paper. My house has unique networking challenge. Running ethernet cable throughout the old house was problematic enough. The studs, wall plates, and headers were not standardized and predictable like newer homes. Running ethernet outside of the house was required for some rooms. I then ran a foot shielded category 6 ethernet cable suitable for underground installation along with the power lines that feed the game room.

I wanted the second DIR to act as a switch and wireless access point in the game room. Plug the power into the access point router. Connect one of your computers to the router LAN port using an Ethernet cable.

When the login window appears, set the user name to Admin and leave the password box empty. Click Log In to continue. Note: these are the D-Link default values. If you have changed the default IP address or Admin password, substitute the appropriate values 3. Click on Advanced and then click Advanced Network. Uncheck the Enable UPnP checkbox. Click Save Settings to continue.

Click Setup and then click Network Settings. Click Save Settings to save your settings. Save the settings. Any ideas on if I can do this?

I would prefer to have the Netgear as the base station as it seems to handle the connection to the modem better. Thanks, Jeremy Edit: Been googling for a while, found this "The routers cannot connect to eachother wireless this requires WDS which to my knowledge I have not seen on anything draft N yet. I have no idea what this means, but does that mean I can't use the DIR as a wireless access point? Last edited: Feb 21, Vipernitrox New Member. You can use the dir as an accesspoint but not using the netgear wireless.

What you could try is setup both the same way. SSID, security and password on the wireless. And if you're lucky it'll work and your wireless products will roam between the two. If so, you should just be able to disable DHCP on the D-Link, and then it will function as a switch which means that it will just be like an extension of the Netgear router.

I'm not sure if you want to name the wireless networks the same though I think that might interfere with your connection rather than help it but I'm not positive. PohTayToez said:. Click to expand If the d-link supports dd-wrt, you can use that to set it up as a repeater iirc.
